A class action entitled Brown v. American Tobacco Co., et al. was filed by this firm in 1997. It was recently granted class certification by Judge Ronald Prager of the San Diego Superior Court. Litigation of this class action is ongoing with a trial date of late 2003 anticipated.

William O. Dougherty - Attorney at Law
William Dougherty received his B.A. from Stanford University and obtained his J.D. at Loyola Marymount University in 1966. He was admitted to the California bar in 1968. He has been a member of the San Diego Superior Court, Panel of Arbitrators since 1994. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California, Consumer Attorneys of California, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Consumer Attorneys of San Diego County and the American Arbitration Association. He has successfully represented a large number of admiralty and maritime claims and has continually been involved in breast implant and other consumer actions such as Fen-Phen and tobacco. Donald F. Hildre - Attorney at Law
Donald Hildre received his B.S. at Claremont McKenna College and obtained his J.D. at the University of San Diego in 1975. His affiliations include the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC, Board of Governors Member), the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (Past-Chairman, Admiralty Section), Consumer Attorneys of San Diego County, California Breast Implant Litigation (Member, Steering Committee), the Tobacco Class Action Litigation Group (Member) and the National L-Tryptophan Steering Committee. A prominent activist and lecturer in both legal and political circles, Mr. Hildre was on the California Trial Lawyer's Association (CTLA) Board of Governors and is formerly a state delegate for CTLA. Thomas D. Haklar - Attorney at Law
Thomas Haklar received his B.S. from California State University, Northridge in 1988 and his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1993. Upon becoming a member of the State Bar of California in 1993, Mr. Haklar joined the Dougherty and Hildre firm. His local focus on Breast Implant and L-Tryptophan litigation was interrupted temporarily when he moved to New Orleans to focus exclusively on litigation against the tobacco industry. Currently, Mr. Haklar's practice focuses on mass tort products liability litigation involving such products as L-Tryptophan, Rezulin and Baycol.
